Car Slams into a Building Trapping One Person: Rescue Box 10-11

May 16, 2007 – Squad 303 responded to the 1700 Block of East Joppa Road to assist crews with a person trapped in her car after slamming into a local business.  The squad crew assisted Truck 1 with cutting the roof and removing the trapped victim.   Units on Scene: BC1, E10, T1, SQ303, M10, EMS1


Duplex House Fire with Cat Rescue in Hillendale: Fire Box 11-14

May 6, 2007 – Engine 302 responded on the first alarm assignment of a reported dwelling fire off of Loch Raven Blvd. Engine 11 advised units en route of a large column of black smoke from a distance. E11 arrived with heavy fire from the front and rear of the house. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and knocked a majority of the fire within minutes of arrival. Neighbors advised fire crews that two cats lived in the home. A primary search was conducted and both cats were rescued. The fire caused extensive damage to the home. Tanker Strike Team Requested for Jacksonville House Fire: Fire Box 47-13

May 4, 2007 – Just before 5:30pm, units were dispatched to a report of a dwelling fire in the area of Sweet Air Road & Patterson Road.  Engines from Jacksonville VFC and Long Green VFC reported heavy smoke from a distance and requested a tanker strike team.  Engine 302 responded as part of the tanker strike team and assisted units with overhaul. Single Vehicle Accident on Merrymans Mill Road: Rescue Box 47-14

May 2, 2007 – In the early afternoon, Station 47 received a call for a 10-50PI with an unconscious subject.  Engine 473 arrived at location, advised dispatch that the subject was trapped, and requested a rescue assignment.  The patient’s foot was heavily entangled under the dashboard leading to a lengthy extrication. The squad crew used “rescue rams” to roll the dashboard and push the steering column off of the victim. The patient was flown to Shock Trauma with serious injuries.  Units on scene: BC11, E473, SQ303, T297, E391, M395, EMS7, U477, Trooper 3


Garage Fire Extends to House Engulfing Residence in Flames: Fire Box 29-5

April 29, 2007 – Not long after returning from a vehicle rescue, firefighters from station 30 responded to a report of a dwelling fire on Ellendale Drive.  First arriving units reported heavy fire showing from the garage with fire spreading into the house.  Engine 302’s crew took a hose line into the dwelling and made an aggressive interior fire attack to prevent the fire from spreading.  The crew experienced thick black smoke and heavy fire conditions.  Units on scene: DC1, E291, E292, E302, E101, E11, E10, E17, E382, T297, T1, FL293, M1, EMS1, AU478, Rehab 154,155

Subject Pinned after Crashing Vehicle: Rescue Box 29-4

April 29, 2007 – Squad 303 responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash with entrapment at the intersection of Cromwell Bridge Road and Cowpens Avenue.  Providence Volunteers arrived to find a subject heavily entangled in a Jaguar.  Rescue crews had to flap the roof back and roll the dash in order to free the subject’s legs.  The victim was flown to Shock Trauma due to his injuries.  Units on scene: DC1, E291, T297, SQ303, M10, EMS1, Trooper 1



Nursing Home Fire in Towson: Fire Box 1-25

April 20, 2007 – Truck 1 was alerted for a fire alarm shortly after 4pm at the Maples of Towson, a multi-story assisted living facility.  Dispatch advised Truck 1 to respond emergency for a reported odor of smoke in the facility.  The Lieutenant on Truck 1 requested two engines to respond on the assignment.  Arriving units found smoke in the building and requested a fire box.  Engine 302 & Squad 303 responded to the scene and assisted units with roof operations and evacuating elderly residents.  The fire was contained to one unit and the roof area. Multiple Sheds on Fire at Timonium Fairgrounds: Fire Box 17-9

April 20, 2007 – Around 4:40am, Engine 17 was alerted for a “playground” fire at the Timonium Fairgrounds.  Upon arrival, Engine 17 arrived to find approximately five sheds and several playground sets fully involved and requested a fire box.  Engine 302 & Squad 303 responded to the scene and assisted units with extinguishing the fire.  Command requested FID to investigate the fire.  Crews cleared the scene by 6am. Two Alarm Fatal Motel Fire in Towson: Fire Box 1-18

April 14, 2007 – Minutes after midnight, companies responded to a report of a motel fire a block from station 1 in Towson.  The officer on Truck 1 advised units he could see fire from a distance.  Upon arrival, E101 advised there was heavy fire showing and requested a second alarm.  Engine 307 arrived shortly after and assisted crews extinguishing the fire and also conducted a primary search of other motel rooms.  Crews from Lutherville and Providence forced the door on the room below the fire and assisted an elderly man from the building.  Firefighters discovered a body in the room where the fire initially started.  FID (fire investigator) was on the scene. One Person Severely Injured in Accident on I-83 South: Rescue Box 17-83

April 8, 2007 – Baltimore County 911 received a call for a car accident on Southbound I-83 at I-695 with one person trapped.  Squad 303 arrived on the scene first and advised that one patient was injured but not trapped.  Crews stabilized the victim and moved him to the medic unit.  While being examined, the patient mentioned that there was another passenger in the car.  An extensive search was conducted around the crash scene but no other victims were found.  Units on scene: BC1, E17, TOW17, SQ303, E301, E307, E392, M17, EMS7


Report of a Dwelling Fire in First Due: Fire Box 30-1

April 6, 2007 – Station 30 was alerted for a reported house fire just after midnight.  Comments from dispatch advised that the caller thought his neighbor’s house was on fire.  Engine 301 arrived minutes later to find a small fire on the second floor.  Crews from company 30 made a quick knock on the fire.  Equipment from station 30 & station 17 remained on scene to check for extension and ventilate.  Units on scene: BC1, E301, E17, E101, E291, E392, TOW17, SQ303


Snow Storm Causes Milk Tanker to Overturn: Local Box 30-63

February 14, 2007 – Snowy and icy road conditions resulted in a busy day for volunteers at LVFC.  Station 30 started responding to calls around 5am and didn’t finish until later that night.  Engine 307 responded to a report of an overturned tractor trailer around 2pm on the ramp of I-83 southbound to I-695 west.  The driver of the tractor trailer lost control and rolled the milk tanker onto its side. Lumber Yard Fire Under Investigation: Fire Box 30-10

January 27, 2007 – Just before 8pm, station 30 received a call for an unknown type fire in the area of Seminary Park.  Engine 302, responding with seven personnel, came across the fire at Bond Lumber Company.  The officer on Engine 302 advised he had a large storage shed, housing lumber, fully involved and requested a fire box.  E302 dropped a 5” supply line and immediately placed in service two 1¾” attack lines and a 2½” blitz line.  Crews from station 30 knocked the fire and Tower 17 was used during overhaul to wet down the smoldering material.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Multiple Vehicle Accident with People Trapped: Rescue Box 30-80

January 1, 2007 – The New Year got off to a busy start with station 30 responding to nine calls on the first day of 2007.  In the late afternoon, Engine 302 was alerted for a 10-50PI on I-695 with Engine 14.  While en route dispatch advised units that the location of the incident was actually on I-83 northbound from the ramp of westbound I-695.  Engine 302 arrived with multiple vehicles involved and one person trapped.  The crew from Squad 303 removed the driver’s door to free the victim.  All of the injured patients were transported to area hospitals.  Units on scene: BC11, E302, SQ303, T1, M1, M14, M117, EMS 7, E14, HM114


Bedroom Fire in Company 30’s First Due: Fire Box 30-1

December 10, 2006 – Shortly after 1am station 30 received a call for a bedroom fire on Cinder Road.  First arriving units reported heavy smoke showing. Crews entered the front door and found the fire in the rear bedroom.  The fire was quickly extinguished and units cleared within an hour.  Units on scene: BC1, E307, E17, E14, E391, TOW17, SQ303, E101, T1, FL293


Heavy Rescue – Car Slams Into Back of Tractor Trailer: Rescue Box 14-63

December 5, 2006 – Baltimore County 911 received a call for a car underneath a tractor trailer with the driver trapped in the vehicle.  Units arrived on the scene and confirmed one patient was severely trapped with the car completely under the tractor trailer. Squad 303 was the first rescue unit on the scene and developed a “game plan” for the extrication. Rescue crews used the winch from Squad 303 to pull the car out from underneath the trailer.  The roof had to be removed and the dash had to be rolled off of the patient’s legs. The priority 1 patient was flown to Shock Trauma via Trooper 1.  Units on scene: BC11, E14, TOW323, T1, T313, SQ303, SQ414, M14, EMS5, E2, SU418


Extended Extrication Involving Tractor Trailer: Rescue Box 39-16

November 28, 2006 – At 7am Engine 391 and Medic 117 were alerted for a 10-50PI involving a tractor trailer at Shawan Road and I-83.  Police officers arrived first and advised the tractor trailer was on its side with the driver trapped.  Squad 303 arrived minutes later and began the extrication.  The Squad crew utilized the crane to stabilize the tractor trailer and cut the roof off of the truck.  The victim’s legs were severely trapped under the dash board which complicated rescue efforts.  It took rescue crews over an hour to remove the patient from the wreckage.  The victim was flown to Shock Trauma.  Hazmat 114 and the Maryland Department of Environment were called to assist with clean up of diesel and oil spillage from the truck.  Units on scene: BC11, E391, TOW17, SQ303, IV 395, M117, EMS7, HM114, E14, MDE


10-50PI Rescue on I-83 North of Shawan Road: Rescue Box 39-80

November 12, 2006 – Squad 303 was alerted for a car accident with entrapment around 7:30pm. Engine 391 arrived on location confirming one patient trapped and set up command. The subject was not wearing a seatbelt and was trapped under the dashboard. Crews removed the roof and rolled the dashboard in order to free the person. The patient was transported to Sinai Trauma. Units on scene: BC1, E391, TOW17, SQ303, M395, M17, EMS1, E441

Two Helicopters Requested for Multi-Car Accident: Rescue Box 14-62

November 11, 2006 – Just after 1pm, Engine 301 and Squad 303 responded to a multi-vehicle accident on the innerloop of the beltway. Engine 14 arrived to find one patient trapped in the back of a PT Cruiser and several others injured. Squad 303 and Truck 1 removed the rear door and worked to free the passenger who was entangled in the back of the car. One patient was flown to Shock Trauma and the other victim was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Units on scene: BC11, E14, T1, SQ303, M14, M10, EMS5, E301

10-50PI Rollover on I-83 Northbound: Local Box 30-80

November 4, 2006 – Around midnight, Squad 303 responded for a car accident reported on I-695 between Charles Street and I-83 north. Units arrived on location finding one SUV with extensive damage. The driver had rolled the car at a high rate of speed. The patient was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Units on scene: SQ303, E14, M395

Pickup Truck MVA - Providence Rd & Loch Raven Dr:  Rescue Box 29-7

November 2, 2006 – Squad 303 was alerted for a 10-50PI rescue during rush hour. First arriving units found a pickup truck completely destroyed. The driver was able to free himself from the wreckage but FD personnel were unsure if a passenger had been ejected. The crew from Squad 303 used the thermal imager to look for additional patients. No additional victims were found. Squad 303 assisted with lighting until the patient was transported to the helicopter. Units on scene: BC1, E291, T1, SQ303, M7, EMS1, E10

Training at the Baltimore County Fire Rescue Academy

October 30, 2006 – Members of station 30 practiced fire evolutions and ran through several drills to prepare for real life scenarios. Officers used the opportunity to have experienced firefighters mentor newer and younger members. The exercise also allowed drivers to train several new candidates to become pump operators.

Ejected Patient Trapped under Vehicle: Rescue Box 30-63

October 29, 2006 – Station 30 received a call for a 10-50PI rollover on the northbound ramp to I-83 from the outerloop of the beltway. The officer at the station decided to take Squad 303 in case the patient was trapped. En route, dispatch advised state police were on location with a victim trapped underneath her vehicle. The assignment was upgraded to a rescue box. Squad 303 arrived and confirmed one patient trapped. The car was 100 feet off of the road so the extrication process was complicated. The experienced crew utilized the winch to move the car off of the young girl. The victim was flown to Shock Trauma due to her mechanism of injury. Units on scene: BC11, E307, SQ303, T1, M1, EMS7 (E101 handled the landing site)

Lutherville Volunteers Participate in BCFD Funeral Detail

October 16, 2006 – A crew from Station 30 attended the funeral of fallen Baltimore City Firefighter Allen Roberts. After the funeral service at Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, Engine 307 participated in the long procession to Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens where Roberts was laid to rest. Engine 301 and Squad 303 set up on the Seminary Avenue Bridge overlooking I-83 northbound to pay their respects.

Three Trapped in Pickup - Perring Pkwy & Taylor Ave:  Rescue Box 10-3

October 14, 2006 – Around 5pm, a car t-boned a pickup truck causing the truck to slam into a light pole.  Squad 303 responded as part of the rescue assignment to assist units with multiple people trapped.  First arriving units stabilized the vehicle before the extrication process was started.  The squad crew assisted Truck 8 in removing the truck roof.  The patients were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.  Units on scene: BC11, E10, T8, SQ303, M8, M11, EMS6


Two Trucks Involved in Major Accident on I-83:  Rescue Box 17-82

September 21, 2006 – Squad 303 responded on rescue box 17-82 just before 3am to I-83 northbound around Padonia Road.  Medic 17 arrived first and advised there was one patient heavily entangled and requested the Shock Trauma GO Team (who handles amputations).  SQ303 arrived shortly after and assisted Engine 17 & Tower 17 with removing the side door, performing a dash roll and removing the patient from the truck.  The rescue process was complicated by the impact of the accident and the damage to the front of the truck.  The patient was flown to Shock Trauma via Maryland State Police Helicopter.  Units on scene:  BC1, E17, TOW17, SQ303, M17, EMS7, E391


Building Fire in Cockeysville:  Fire Box 39-13

September 19, 2006 – Engine 301 responded to the 100 Block of Cockeysville Road for a report of smoke and fire coming from the roof of a vacant building.  Crews from station 30 assisted with extinguishing the fire.


Three Alarm Apartment Fire in Towson:  Fire Box 1-29

September 18, 2006 – Just before 4pm, Engine 101 was dispatched to investigate an odor of smoke on Treeway Court.  E101 arrived with heavy smoke and fire showing and requested a fire box.  Moments later, a working fire profile was dispatched and then quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm.  Engine 307 responded on first alarm and Squad 303 responded on the working fire assignment.  A third alarm was requested as the fire spread across the roof of the garden style apartment building.  E307 was the only piece of apparatus to operate from the back side of the apartment building.  Crews from station 30 assisted with aggressive interior attacks as the fire spread to multiple apartments.  Units operated on the scene for several hours. Apartment Fire in Hillendale: Fire Box 11-7

September 14, 2006 – At approximately 3:00am Engine 307 and Squad 303 responded for a report of an apartment fire in the 6900 block of Lachlan Circle. Engine 11 arrived and advised they had smoke showing. Upon further investigation, E11 requested a working fire profile and informed dispatch that the apartment door needed to be forced opened. Engine 307 arrived with 6 personnel; 4 crew members created the RIT taskforce while the other 2 crew members threw ladders to the second floor apartment. Squad 303 arrived and performed a secondary search which came up negative. Units on scene: BC1, E11, E10, E101, E307, T1, T8, SQ303, FL293, M1, AU478

Police Car Involved in Serious Accident on Beltway: Rescue Box 30-60

September 2, 2006 – While retuning from a dryer fire at the Hunt Valley Marriott, Squad 303 and Engine 307 were picked up on the road for a 10-50PI rescue on the inner loop of the Beltway by Charles St.  A Baltimore County police officer responding to a hit-and-run call, lost control of his car (due to poor weather conditions) and collided with a tractor trailer.  SQ303 arrived within 30 seconds, advised there was one patient heavily entrapped and set up command.  E307 arrived shortly after and assisted the squad crew with the extrication.  The rescue effort was complicated by the cage in the officer’s car because it was bolted to the car in six places.  The crews from LVFC removed the roof and rolled the dashboard off of the officer’s legs.  The extrication was completed in less than 20 minutes.  The officer was transported by land to Shock Trauma with minor injuries.  Units on scene: BC1, E307, SQ303, T17, M1, EMS7, E101


Bedroom Fire in Cockeysville:  Fire Box 17-15

August 30, 2006 – Station 30 was alerted for E307 and SQ303 for a report of a bedroom fire on Dulaney Hill Ct.  E17 arrived and advised there was smoke showing from the second floor.  E307 laid a supply line for E17 to establish a water source.  Crews from E307 assisted with extinguishment while crews from SQ303 helped with ventilation.  Units on scene: BC11, E17, E391, E307, E473, T17, SQ303

Apartment Fire in Parkville:  Fire Box 10-7

August 29, 2006 – Early in the morning, fire dispatch received a report of an apartment fire at 7 Dundas Ct.  E10 arrived and reported a 3-story garden style apartment with smoke showing. E307 responded to the scene as the fourth due engine.  Upon arrival, the crew from E307 checked for possible extension of fire into the attic area.  Units cleared the scene within 2 hours.

Barn Fire in Hereford:  Fire Box 44-3

August 25, 2006 – Engine 302 was alerted as part of a tanker strike team to assist units with a fully involved barn on Carroll Road in northern Baltimore County.  Crews from Lutherville assisted with extinguishment.  Units operated on the scene for over 8 hours.


Working Rescue in Long Green: Rescue Box 38-5

August 9, 2006 - Around 6:26am SQ303 was dispatched for a 10-50PI rescue on Glen Arm Road . En route, dispatch advised units that police were on the scene with one vehicle into a tree with heavy damage and the driver was suffering from severe injuries. EMS 1 arrived on the scene first and advised one person was trapped and requested MSP Trooper 1. SQ303 and T1 worked together to remove the driver door, the roof, and performed a dash roll. Total extrication time was about 20 minutes. The patient was transported to Shock Trauma via Trooper 1. Units on scene: BC1, E382, T1, SQ303, M11, EMS1, U386 (E10 handled the landing site)

Two Pinned on Cromwell Bridge Rd.

August 8, 2006 - Rehab 157 came across Main Fire Dispatch and advised that they had just been involved in a 10-50 at the intersection of Cromwell Bridge Rd and Loch Raven Dr. Soon after they advised that they were down an embankment and the other vehicle was overturned with subjects trapped. Rescue Box 29-6 was sounded bringing S303 to the scene as the heavy rescue. Acting Chief of the department arrived confirmed the rescue and requested two more transport units along with a MSP Trooper. S303 arrived and assisted with the removal of the two-trapped patients. Both patients were transported to Shock Trauma via Trooper 1 while one person from the rehab unit was transported to a local trauma center. Lutherville would like to wish our injured brother a speedy recovery.

Fatal Rescue on Dulaney Valley Rd: Rescue Box 30-5

July 23, 2006 - E307 was dispatched for a 10-50 PI at the intersection of Dulaney Valley Rd and Pot Spring Rd. While en route, E307 and M1 were advised that the call was being upgraded to a rescue box. M1 arrived and advised 1 patient was trapped and unconscious. E307 arrived, established command, and requested a 2nd medic and Trooper 1 for the priority 1 patient. SQ303 and T1 arrived and worked on extricating the trapped patient. Extrication took approximately 10 minutes. Upon extrication, the patient went into trauma arrest and was transported to an area hospital. Units on scene: BC1, E307, SQ303, T1, M1, M17, EMS 7 (E302 handled the landing site, Trooper 1 cancelled)

Squad Responds to Rescue on Falls Road: Rescue Box 14-1

July 18, 2006 - E14 and M14 were dispatched to a 10-50PI in the area of Falls Rd and Brookstone Ct. Dispatch upgraded the call to a rescue minutes later. E14 arrived, advised two vehicles hit head-on and 1 patient was trapped. SQ303 arrived, stabilized the car, and began extrication. The crew removed the door, removed the roof, and rolled the dash to free the trapped victim. T1 assisted with the extrication. The patient went into trauma arrest shortly after extrication. Units on scene: BC11, E14, SQ303, T1, M14, EMS7 (E501 handled the landing site, Trooper 1 cancelled)

SQ303 Assists with Rescue on Old Court Rd: Rescue Box 14-11

April 24, 2006 - At 15:25, E14 & M14 were dispatched for a 10-50PI which was upgraded to a rescue. E14 arrived to find a Honda Element sitting in a front yard after striking a tree. The vehicle had major front-end damage and entrapped the driver. Tower 323 removed the door as SQ303 arrived. Units then worked together to flap the roof and roll the dash. In addition, crews had to untangle the patient’s foot which was stuck between the floor board and fire wall. Extrication took approximately 35 minutes. The children in back seats escaped with minor injuries. All patients were transported to Sinai Hospital. Units on scene: BC22, E14, TOW323, SQ303, M14, M315, M10, EMS5
