LVFC Responds to Jack-Knifed Tractor Trailer

August 13, 2009 - At approximately 3:30am, Squad 303 and Engine 302 responded to the report of a 10-50PI Rescue on the ramp between innerloop I-695 and I-83 North (Harrisburg Expressway) involving a jack-knifed tractor trailer. As the first arriving unit, Medic 1 established command, confirmed that no patients were trapped and canceled the rescue assignment. However, as one of the saddle fuel tanks on the tractor trailer was punctured during the incident, command requested additional resources to the scene, including HazMat 114 as well as an emergency response unit from the Maryland Department of the Environment. The crew from Squad 303 used their rescue tools to gain access to the tank and acted quickly to plug the fuel leak and contain the hazardous diesel fuel. Units on scene include: S303, E302, M1, HazMat114, F14.
