2-Alarm Building Fire at Bond Lumber in Lutherville: Fire Box 30-10
July 11, 2010 - At approximately 5:30pm, Station 30 was alerted for the report of a building fire on Railroad Avenue off of Seminary Avenue in Lutherville. Located less than a mile from the station, Engine 302 responded and while en route encountered smoke in the area and received reports from other responding units that a column of smoke was visible in the distance. Upon arrival, Engine 302 found an large storage facility on fire at Bond Lumber Yard and immediately secured a water source from the nearest fire hydrant. Engine 302 then established command, conducted an initial assessment, requested a working fire assignment, and began defensive exterior operations due to heavy fire conditions and a partial roof collapse. Due to the size of the building and to protect adjacent structures from the fire, command requested a 2nd alarm assignment which provided additional support and personnel to the scene. Ladder pipes operations were established utilizing Truck 1 and Tower 17 to fight the fire from above as well as several handlines from the ground. Engine 307 as well as Squad 303 also responded to the scene and assisted with attacking the fire and performing overhaul. Baltimore County Fire Investigation Division was notified and units remained on scene for approximately four hours. (Photos by Michael Walker)
