Squad Responds to Trench Collapse in Pikesville: Rescue Box 02-08
August 01, 2011 - At approximately 1:10pm, Squad 303 was alerted to respond to the report of a worker trapped as a result of a trench collapse on Woodvalley Drive off of Greenspring Avenue in Pikesville. Squad 303 immediately responded and while enroute first arriving units from Station 2 (Pikesville) advised one patient stuck waist deep in a trench located along the foundation of a building. Crews from Station 17's (Texas) Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) / Advanced Tactical Rescue (ATR) team, along with Pikesville Volunteers (Station 32), utilized trench rescue equipment to shore up and stabilize the trench in order to safely extricate the patient. Throughout the rescue operation, Squad 303's crew provided support to specialized rescue teams on scene. After stabilization was complete, the patient was removed from the trench, packaged, and transported via Maryland State Police Medevac to Shock Trauma for evaluation. Crews remained on scene for approximately 4 hours.
