Fatal Dwelling Fire in Hereford: Fire Box 44-16
August 30, 2011 - At approximately 12:30am, Squad 303 was alerted to respond to the report of a dwelling fire with rescue on Big Falls Road in Hereford. Squad 303 immediately responded and while en route, first arriving units from Station 44 (Hereford) advised a single family dwelling with heavy fire showing and established command. Due to the rural area and lack of fire hydrants, command immediately requested a tanker strike team to shuttle water along with a working fire assignment to bring additional resources to the scene. Shortly thereafter, Squad 303 arrived to find units on scene hard at work locating the trapped victim and beginning to put a knock the fire. Squad 303's crew immediately went to work and operated several hand lines, knocking down a large amount of fire throughout the house while protecting crews making rescue. Engine 307 also responded as part of the working fire assignment and assumed RIT. Station 30 crews remained on scene for nearly 4 hours and conducted extensive overhaul operations.
